Let everything be just the way it is
Live in the present
Sink into the present
Transcend the present
Hi! My name is Albina Locarno, and I'm an Italian truth seeker living in Italy.
In 2015 I created Esserci meditando, a research project and also a site and a blog where I write about the Insight Meditation courses and workshops I organize and the Science of the Mind (originated in the Buddhist Abhidhamma).
I've always been interested in the fine investigation of Reality and since the early 90s I've explored different physical approaches like Feldenkrais, Hata Yoga, Bioenergetics, Tai Chi and Kung Fu. For 10 years I've also worked in different theatre research companies between Milan and Rome.
In the meantime I graduated in Medicinal Chemistry with a neuropsychopharmacology thesis, and then I earned a PhD in Neurobiology, studying the somatosensory circuits in the brain.
Esserci meditando is then an existential project, because my passion has always been to try to know what I am and what the Reality I'm immersed in is.
I also believe that this kind of experiential search, which is infinite and very fulfilling, can be shared with others using discipline and kindness.
If you feel that you have a similar scientific approach to existence then you might enjoy to share the path with me a little bit. We will explore what we are starting from Vipassana, a technique based on two Buddha's discourses: Anapanasati (awareness of breathing) and Satipatthana (the foundations of mindfulness).
something you should know before starting to meditate
What is generally called meditation is actually a broad range of methods.
The one that is spreading around as mindfulness is the simple act of paying a non-judgmental attention to the present moment, something that here will be also called Awareness or Insight Meditation (or Vipassana).

Observing one's body, sensations, feelings and thoughts one can experience inside oneself the ever changing flow of mental and physical processes. Accepting and embracing this flow can slowly free ourselves from conditioning and can bring, over time, internal peace and equanimity.
To benefit from meditation is not necessary to seat with legs crossed in the typical lotus posture. To develop awareness is important to be awake and alert, so it is recommended to keep the back straight and upright in a sitting position, either on the floor or on a chair, while laying down could easily take us to sleep, something that could be useful, but does not develop awareness.
This is the only English page on my website.
